A DEVELOPING AND CHANGING GAZİANTEP

Gaziantep, located at the center that combines Asian and Middle Eastern Countries to Mediterranean and Europe, is considered to be one of the leading industry and commerce centers of our country which makes productions with the domestic capital in industrial institutions under complete authority of the private sector, in the South Eastern Anatolian Region and markets those products within and across borders.

Within its facilities seen as the industrial and commercial centers of our region, Gaziantep, sharing a significant role in city and country development with its productions made through using the developing industry and production technologies, is even a more strategically significant city with its geographical position, particularly since the beginning of the EU negotiations. With the membership to the EU, Gaziantep will become a door for the European Union that opens to Arab League and Middle East, thus, every kind of productions of Gaziantep will have the opportunity to be offered more easily in wider markets apart from the border commerce. Besides, it will become a bridge towards the development of relationships with Middle East.

With its successful position as an industry and Commerce City, Gaziantep has turned into a model for the neighboring cities in terms of development, modernization and progress. Many industrial productions such as cement and textiles, special pistachio of Gaziantep, olive oil, red pepper, the sweet pastry "baklava", cracked wheat, etc. are exported to more than 130 countries. Thanks to such a characteristic, Gaziantep uses its productions sector power in exportation and is proud of its name among international commercial activities.

The developments of our city in the industry and commerce areas with 4 Organized Regions of industry and Modeling Sites of industry, provides many advantages for the foreign investors, and the commercial and economical cooperation works increased in the last few years contributes to our city and country economy to a great extent. The cultural and economical cooperation efforts established between neighboring countries, Syria and Iraq, has reached to an important place for our city and is continuing to improve within good neighboring relationships.

In 2006, 371.350.148 YTL is allocated from the main budget to general and annexed budget administrations and municipal administrations of our city as an investment allowance for the execution of 676 projects. The continuing projects are Gaziantep Local Road, Gaziantep - Kilis and Gaziantep - Şanlıurfa highway, Southeast Anatolia Kayacik Dam Belkis Nizip pumping Watering and Southeast Anatolia Urgent Drinking Water Projects, the Regional Emergency and Traumatology Hospital (Additional building with 300 beds) connected to 25th December Hospital and Gaziantep University Şahinbey the Center of Research and Application Hospital (Additional building with 400 beds) which are under construction.

For modem city life, the cultural development of the society is as important as economic development. The private sector administrators, the local administrators and the civil society organizations who are conscious of the situation will help for developing and sharing of art and culture, and will support the manufacture of the buildings like art galleries, libraries, museums, theatres and concert halls, sports centers and culture city.

Briefly, Gaziantep presents the best investments and the advantages for local and foreign investors with its geographic situation, qualified work power, improved technology in industry and commerce, energy and infrastructure possibilities, its mainland, airway, railway advantages to the Middle East and Asia markets and social tolerance and its democratical shape which is open to the developments.
